EDEC 3155. Assessment in Early Childhood (3-0-3) Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education. An examination of formal and informal classroom assessment procedures, methods of action research, and standardized measurement. Students will become familiar with the Georgia Performance Standards and the use of rubrics to assess student performance. Pertinent issues relating to assessment will also be examined.

EDEC 3256. Curriculum and Organization in Early Childhood (3-2-4) Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education, EDEC 3255, and EDEC 4155 with a grade of C or better in each. Focus on theory, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects related to curriculum, including establishing and managing an appropriate environment leading to children's sociomoral and autonomy development. This course includes extensive laboratory experiences where students interact with diverse learners as they plan, implement, and evaluate integrated curriculum. (Course Fee Required)

EDEC 4217. Teaching Language Arts in Early Childhood Education (2-4-4) Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education. The application of teaching listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and visually representing in early childhood education. Emphasis: writing, listening, and speaking. NCTE/IRA Standards. (Course fee required.)

EDRG 4218. Reading in the Content Areas: Concentration in Social Studies (2-2-3) Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education, Completion of EDEC 4155 with grade of "C" or better. This course focuses instruction on the simultaneous teaching of reading skills and course content. Emphasis is placed on preparing students for content area reading assignments, concentration in Social Studies; providing support before, during, and after reading; and promoting higher-level thinking. Course theme: Reading Across the Curriculum - motivating students to read widely and developing vocabulary, reading comprehension, and study skills. (Course fee required.)

MAED 5133. Understanding Geometry and Measurement (3-0-3) An exploration geometry and measurement topics through the use of a variety of tools. Topics include definitions and theorems relevant to elementary school teaching, elementary constructions, perimeter, area and volume. Students may only attempt the course three times. Undergraduate Prerequisites: MATH 2008 with a grade of "C" or better and Admission to Teacher Education. Graduate Prerequisite: MAED 6130 with a grade of "C" or better.
