ITDS 5105. History and Practice of Translation (3-0-3) Prerequisite: ENGL 1102 with C or better. Translation involves more than moving the meanings of words from one language to another; it is, rather, an exchange of meaning across an entire social, cultural, linguistic and material world. Students will discuss problems of translation in books and/or films, and the roles of editing and transcription in translation. Fluency in a language other than English is not required, but some experience and study of a foreign language is recommended. Students will pursue a term-length project on a translation related topic of their own interest.
