ENGL 5545. Advanced Topics in Literature, Writing, and Theory (3-0-3) Prerequisite: ENGL 1102, ENGL 2155, ENGL 2156, and ENGL 2157 with a grade of "C" or better. ENGL 2155 and ENGL 2156 may be taken concurrently. Intensive study of a major author, theme, genre or movement in literature, writing, or theory. May be taken twice for credit if the topic is different.
ENGL 5744. Studies in the Novel (3-0-3) This course will be an in-depth study of novels that share in common a specific literary period (such as the 19th-Century British Novel) or a specific thematic concern (such as the Novel of the Frontier). Students will read no fewer than seven novels during the course of the semester and will be expected to write at least one extensive analytical essay using primary and/or secondary source materials. Topic will be announced in course schedule book; course may be repeated for credit twice if topic is different.
