Explanatory statement

The statements set forth in these catalogs are for informational purposes only and should not be construed as the basis of a contract between a student and this institution. Although the catalog is accurate at the time of publishing, matters of curricula and degree progress and completion as adopted by the faculty are subject to deletion, addition, or amendment at any time as deemed necessary. Should changes in a program of study become necessary, those changes will be applied liberally and without penalty. For students having discontinuous enrollment, the catalog of the year of readmission will guide their program of study.

While the provisions of these catalogs will ordinarily be applied as stated, Columbus State University reserves the right to change any provision listed in these catalogs including, but not limited to, academic requirements for graduation, without actual notice to individual students. Every effort will be made to keep students advised of any such changes. Information on changes will be available in the Office of the Registrar, from the dean of the college, or from the chair of the department concerned. It is the responsibility of each student to be aware of current graduation requirements for particular degree programs.

Students with a documented disability as described by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (P.L. 933–112 Section 504) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are encouraged to contact the Center for Accommodation and Access, Schuster Center, (706) 507–8755. Course requirements will not be waived, but reasonable accommodations and technical support may be made to assist in meeting course requirements. Columbus State University welcomes qualified students of any race, sex, disability, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the university.

Academic Rights and Responsibilities

Columbus State University, and the University System of Georgia, endorses the American Council on Education's Statement on Academic Rights and Responsibilities (PDF), which reiterates the campus community's role in intellectual pluralism and academic freedom.

To Online Students in Alabama:

Teacher Education: State authorization to provide a program related to the preparation of teachers or other P–12 school/system personnel does not indicate eligibility for an Alabama certificate. Applicants for an Alabama certificate based on reciprocity must meet Alabama's test requirements and submit a valid, renewable professional educator certificate/license issued by another state at the degree level, grade level, and in the teaching field or area of instructional support for which an Alabama certificate is sought and for which Alabama issues a certificate. Applicants for Alabama certification in an area of administration must also document at least three years of full–time employment as an administrator in a P–12 school system(s).

Nursing: State approval of a program to offer Alabama licensed nurses opportunities for advanced degrees does not indicate eligibility for approval to practice as an advanced practice nurse in Alabama. Applicants for approval in Alabama are required to meet the Alabama requirements for national certification, graduation from a specific–type program for the advanced practice approval, and completion of the appropriate application. Any program offering a pre–licensure track to Alabama students shall meet the requirements of the Alabama regulations for pre–licensure programs or the graduates may not be eligible to take the national licensure examination required by the Alabama Board of Nursing to enter the practice. www.abn.alabama.gov
