Teacher Education and Leadership Program Authorizations

Columbus State University offers several online and on campus Teacher Education and Leadership degree, certificate, and endorsement programs. These programs are designed to meet the criteria for certification, endorsement, and advancement in the subject matter and grade level classifications established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

The online programs below are are currently approved or exempt from approval, and meet the regulatory requirements to be offered to students who are physically present in the following states. CSU has not made a determination as to whether these programs meet the state educational requirements for state licensure or certification in any state other than Georgia.   • Curriculum & Instruction in Accomplished Teaching (MEd)
  • Education (MAT) - Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics,
    or Earth and Space Science with certification in grades 6-12 or
    Computer Science with certification in grades K-12
  • Educational Leadership (MEd)
  • Educational Leadership (EdS)
  • Elementary Education (MEd)
  • Elementary Education (EdS)
  • Secondary Education - Mathematics (MEd)
  • Secondary Education - Mathematics (EdS)

States

  • Alabama (The AL-DOE does not recognize online degrees for certification. An educator would need to become certified in GA and use the process of reciprocity to seek certification in AL. The GA certificate must be in an equivalent certification area/level as offered in AL. Contact the AL-DOE for additional information about teacher certification.)
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • New Jersey
  • Ohio
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina (The SC-OES requires that the student submit a written request for program review and approval for all online programs prior to enrolling. Contact the OES for more information.)
  • Tennessee
  • Texas (CSU does not offer any programs approved as a Texas Educator Preparation Programs. To be certified in TX, a student would need to first become licensed in GA, then undergo a Review of Credentials and apply for a 1 year permit, and pass the Texas certification exam. The TEA recommends that educators contact them prior to enrolling to discuss the requirements for out-of-state certified educators.)
  • Virginia
  • Wisconsin (According to the WI-DPI, applicants for a Wisconsin educator license who completed their program outside of Wisconsin will not usually have fulfilled all the statutory requirements for a Wisconsin educator license. Applicants who are otherwise eligible for a Wisconsin license based on their credentials may be issued a license with stipulations. Contact the WI-DPI for additional information on certification.)

The programs listed above cannot currently enroll students who are physically present in the states below. CSU has not made a determination as to whether these programs meet the state educational requirements for state licensure or certification in any state other than Georgia. The programs below are currently approved or exempt from approval, and meet the regulatory requirements to be offered to students who are physically present only in Georgia and Alabama*. CSU has not made a determination as to whether these programs meet the state educational requirements for state licensure or certification in any state other than Georgia. Each state board establishes their own criteria for teacher/leader certification, which, in addition to educational requirements, may include (but are not limited to) testing requirements, mandatory certifications, minimum years in service, background checks, applications and fees. Accreditation: Our Education and Educational Leadership programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, and accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Columbus State University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC).
